The College of Design and Built Environment (CDBE) was established in 1401 H (1981) to meet the large demand for professionals in the construction and construction related industries. The College was planned in order to incorporate the academic programs that are mainly concerned with the built environment, both the natural and man-made aspects of this environment, and to prepare students for professional practice in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Construction Engineering and Management and City Planning. The College has four departments: Architecture and City Design, Architectural Engineering and Construction Management, Civil and Environment Engineering and Integrated Design. The college offers bachelors and masters degrees.
The educational philosophy of the College of Design and Built Environment, as its name suggests, is to develop interdisciplinary relations between the professionals who share a common concern for the design and creation of the built environment. In recognition of this commonality, the college has been organized as one unit with shared common facilities and harmony with the nature of KFUPM as a technological university and in consideration of the present and future needs of Saudi Arabia, all the programs in the College are heavily oriented towards the teaching of physical design principles and the application of advanced technology.
